The Class of ‘69 attended what is now Lake Highlands Junior High
School (B) at the corner of Kingsley (now Walnut Hill) and Ferndale, 1964-66. This school opened in 1960 and housed grades 7-12 until
Lake
Highlands Senior High School (A) on Church Road opened in the fall of 1965
(A). Consequently, it was known as Lake Highlands Junior/Senior High
School while we were there and was then fed by four elementary schools: Lake Highlands
(C) at 9501 Ferndale, White Rock (D) at 9229
Chiswell, Wallace (E) at 9921 Kirkhaven, and Stults Road (F)

LHHS on Church, which was not air conditioned until the fall of 1968, was constructed to handle expanding enrollments due to housing construction in Lake Highlands. While the Class of ’65 was comprised of 192 graduates, our Class of ’69 had 361, an increase of 88%.

During 1966-68, 56 students transferred to LHHS from schools as far away as Colombia and as nearby as Hillcrest (3), Bryan Adams (3), Highland Park, South Oak Cliff (2), Greenhill, and Jesuit.
